In addition to Iambana's extensive formal education, he received training in botanical specimen collection and preservation from the Missouri Botanical Garden's Madagascar Program in Antananarivo as well as field research methods for lemurs including data collection in the Betampona Reserve. He is fluent in Malagasy and French and can also communicate with English-only speakers as well. Iambana also trained in Scientific French at the Faculté des Sciences, University of Antananarivo.
