Farming for the Future

The children in the Saturday Class are also taught the merits of using the sustainable SRI (Systeme Riziculture Intensive) technique, as opposed to the traditional slash and burn method which renders the soil virtually infertile within a few years of cultivation.

Students cooperate in groups during a competition with prizes for the group that yields the largest harvest. Events like this draw attention for sustainable agriculture to a broader community as this MFG program has been covered by the Tamatave-based media station.
